St Peter's Youth Committee currently has 7 members. They are: Micky Smyth, Shelly Crewe, Emmet Haughian, Dearbhail Loughran, James Magill, Katie Headley and Paul Hughes.   New members are always welcome.

The young adults are aged 16 – 21 years of age.  They meet monthly to organise, advertise and plan Youth Club activities and help the Youth Club to develop.  They have been involved in programmes to enhance individual and team skills; abilities; knowledge; and confidence in order to establish and sustain a strong group that will be open and inclusive and will develop future leaders, volunteers and role models for the Club, schools and the local community.

 Members of the Youth Committee have:

  • Completed their sports specific first aid & foundation football coaching awards;
  • Completed SELB’s Trainee leader course;
  • Volunteered to participate in the Local Youth Forum; and
  • Set up & evaluated the Club's annual Open Night, Presentation Night, Easter and Summer schemes.

They have completed the training aspect of The Big Lottery’s Making it Happen project.  The aim is for the Youth Committee to develop a project and apply for funding worth £2500.  Tim Stewart from Big Lottery and Alfie Hannaway, our Youth Development Officer have been mentoring the group through the process.  Things are looking very positive and the group are making massive strides in developing their project.  To date this programme has involved:

  • An 8 week training course, focusing on empowerment, community mapping, individual identity, team work and bonding;
  • Team bonding weekend in December to participate in caving, orienteering, coasteering and cliff jumping up around the Giants Causeway.   This time away has brought the group closer together and united them in their aim to assist in developing St Peter's Youth Club programmes.
