Indoor Primary School Blitz

Press Release from North Armagh Cumann Na mBunscol.

Indoor Primary School Blitz.

The first primary school competitions of the year were played in the new St. Peter’s Sports and Community Hall on Thursday and Friday 21st and 22nd of January.

Eleven teams from St. Teresa’s, St. Francis, Lurgan Model, St. Patrick’s Aghagallon, St. Mary’s Derrytrasna and Tannaghmore Primary Schools took part over the two days.

The games were played under the newly adopted all inclusive structure and this was the first competition at which the Respect Initiative, which is to be adhered to throughout the county, was used. Great credit must be given to all the children and staff of the schools for the competitive and sporting way they conducted themselves over the two days.

This year in Armagh the indoor competitions are being organised for children from P4 and P5. Kevin O Hara, from Cumann Na mBunscol Armagh remarked:

“From the moment the ball was thrown in on Thursday I was amazed by the skill level of children so young. The outstanding feature of play during the first day was the courage of the children when blocking the ball. Day two saw some excellent special awareness, fabulous passing and magnificent scoring.”

The schools were all very grateful for the use of St. Peter’s new state of the art facilities and with the assistance of St peters Youth Development Officer we experienced a very enjoyable few days. The large hall and comfortable viewing gallery helped the competition to run smoothly. “This was the perfect venue for such a competition. We look forward to making more use of this great facility in the future,” said Mr. O’Hara
